FREE mortgage arrears advice is on offer to anyone in the borough who fears they may lose their home due to mounting debts.

Aimed at people who are struggling to keep up monthly mortgage payments, the service, developed by the Dudley Council’s homelessness team and the Dudley District Citizens’ Advice Bureau, will give people a helping hand to manage their debts.

Between April and December last year, the service received 229 referrals for borough residents in need of help because of the possibility of repossession.

In the vast majority of cases, the service is able to offer advice and support to prevent the loss of homes.

Councillor Steve Waltho, cabinet member for housing, said: “The pressures of modern living often leads to people getting into debt after spending beyond their means and this initiative means that they have someone who they can turn to for support and advice.”

Anyone who wants to use this free service should telephone 01384 816499 or visit their local Citizens’ Advice Bureau.
