CAMPAIGNERS fighting plans to build a massive indoor recycling centre in Brierley Hill have arranged a public meeting to protest against a recently-lodged appeal.

Clean Power Properties last week confirmed it had lodged an appeal with the Bristol Planning Inspectorate after its proposal to build a state-of-the-art energy recovery centre on old railway sidings off Moor Street was thrown out last August.

The news has prompted Brierley Hill SNOW* (Say NO tO Waste-site) campaigners to reignite their fight against the proposed facility and they will be holding a public meeting on Wednesday February 26 at 7pm at Insight House, Pearson Street, Brierley Hill.

Campaign group spokesman Tim Lee said: “The whole community is very worried about Clean Power's insistence on plans to site a new waste plant on Moor Street, immediately next to the existing RDF waste site.

“The new waste site would seriously impact upon the lives of families living in Brierley Hill, together with those working here and local businesses."

Clean Power Properties denies claims the facility would cause traffic chaos and unpleasant odours to be released into the atmosphere - and instead bosses say it would produce renewable energy for up to around 10,000 homes and bring skilled jobs to town.

Anyone concerned about the plan can attend the meeting organised by SNOW* which now has its own website https://sites.google.com/site/brierleyhillsno/ and sites on Facebook (Brierley Hill SNOW) and Twitter - @BrierleyHillSNO.
