Jolly Jack celebrates 106th birthday
3:30pm Wednesday 26th February 2014 in News
A JOLLY Stourbridge centenarian has declared that the secret to reaching the ripe old age of 106 is maintaining independence.
Jack Jones marked the milestone with a party at Tudor Manor Care Home on Tuesday February 12, where he has been a resident for 12 months.
The birthday celebrations continued for the avid West Bromwich Albion fan on Monday, when he went for a drink with family, friends and care home staff at the Greyhound, Stourbridge.
Mr Jones, who worked as a long-distance lorry driver until he was in his late seventies, regularly enjoys a quick half at the Norton Road pub and said he had an "excellent time".
When asked what the secret was to his longevity, Mr Jones, who was born in Enville, said: "I worked hard when I was younger and I like to do things for myself rather than ask anybody to do it for me."
