RESIDENTS and traders have just a week left to submit their views on controversial plans to introduce a parking permit scheme in Stourbridge's Old Quarter.

Dudley Council sent out letters to people living in 45 congested side streets asking whether they would like to subscribe to a proposed scheme which would see people having to pay £95 a year (per car) to park outside their homes.

However - the proposal, which does not guarantee a parking space immediately outside a particular or even in the same street, has met with fierce opposition from residents who say it would reduce limited parking spaces further and business owners who fear it would kill trade.

The scheme would only go ahead as a 12-month trial if 80 per cent of residents in the Old Quarter support the idea, council bosses have said.

People have until Friday March 7 to return their consultation documents.
