Stourbridge students celebrate Oxbridge offers

First published in News

STOURBRIDGE’S King Edward VI College is celebrating record success with the number of students securing places at Oxford and Cambridge Universities.

In total 19 youngsters from the top performing sixth form college, based in Lower High Street, have received offers to join the world renowned universities.

Principal Sharon Phillips said: “We’re delighted that our students should be so highly regarded.

"We expect around 700 of our students will go on to university this year but this unprecedented Oxbridge success is an added testament to the hard work and dedication of both our students and their teachers.”

King Edward’s is a regional hub for a scheme called HE+ - run in conjunction with Cambridge University - which prepares A Level students for study at Oxbridge and other Russell Group universities.

The college, which ranks in the Department of Education performance tables as the top performing sixth form in the West Midlands region, draws talented youngsters from across the region but the majority of the Oxbridge places have been secured students hailing from the Black Country including six from Stourbridge.
