A STOURBRIDGE glass-making firm has played a part in helping old sailors to celebrate a milestone anniversary.

Tudor Crystal has donated a commemorative glass bowl to the Stourbridge branch of the Royal Naval Association to mark the national organisation's 60th anniversary later this year.

Keith Smith, sales manager at the firm- based at Dial Glass Works, Stewkins, Audnam, presented the 18cm hobnail patterned flared bowl to Ron Gould, vice-chairman of the branch, after former Navy men issued an appeal to businesses to make a donation to their anniversary charity raffle.

Tudor Crystal answered the branch's plea and agreed to donate a 30 per cent English lead crystal bowl, engraved with “Royal Naval Association, Diamond Jubilee 1954 – 2014” and featuring the branch logo, to mark the occasion.

Mr Smith said: "We're always happy to support anything like this that's for a worthwhile cause."

The raffle is to be held ahead of the dedication of a new memorial for past, present and future Navy personnel at the National Memorial Arboretum at Alrewas, Staffordshire, on June 15.
