RESIDENTS from Oriel Care Home in Stourbridge have been busy polishing up their zimmer frames and walking sticks ready to make their own special contribution to Sport Relief.

The residents are planning to take a leisurely half mile walk around their care home on Saturday April 12, starting in Hagley Road and finishing on Ibstock Drive.

Some will be pushed around in wheelchairs, while others plan to complete the route with the help of some assisted walking.

Activities co-ordinator Becky Vellender said: "We've got 33 residents at present ranging from their early 70s in age up to 99. All of them are prepared to give it a go.

"They've all been watching Sport Relief and were captivated by Davina McCall and the effort she went through.

"They wanted to do something for Sport Relief and our care manager Jane Linford came up with the idea of a walk.

"We've supported a number of charities in the past, such as Macmillan Nurses, AGE UK and The Pocklington Trust. More importantly they want to show the positive side of a care home."
