FORMER England batsman, Mike Gatting rolled up his sleeves and got stuck in to some DIY at Pedmore Cricket Club on Sunday.

His visit was part of NatWest CricketForce, an annual initiative that encourages communities to chip in and prepare the country's cricket grounds for the season ahead.

This year, Pedmore was chosen as one of the showcase clubs that received a helping hand from Gatting.

The cricket star started work as soon as he arrived and mixed concrete ready to erect a new fence, before starting to dig out trenches and helping to erect two sight screens.

During a break, Gatting, together with officials from the England and Wales Cricket Board, NatWest and Worcestershire Cricket Board addressed members and the club was presented with a commemorative plaque and a shirt, bat and photograph signed by the England Cricket Squad.

Club chairman, Roger Price said: "Despite all his work, Mike still made time to talk to members, sign photos, shirts and bats. We were supported by some 15 national and local companies and 130 members enjoyed a great day. "
