STOURBRIDGE'S Tesco store has become the second supermarket in the country to install a new changing facility for customers with disabilities.

The Changing Places facility is designed for users who need additional space and lifting assistance when using the toilet and changing.

Users can now benefit from a ceiling hoist, height adjustable changing bench, assisted sink, grab rails and a privacy screen.

The facility was opened by the Deputy Mayor of Dudley, Margaret Aston, on Friday morning.

Store manager, Sadie Griffiths, said: “I am very proud to be the first Tesco store manager to provide these specialist facilities for our customers and the local community.”

A Changing Places Consortium spokesman said: “Without these facilities, families have to change the person they care for on a cramped and dirty toilet floor.

"The alternative is to limit outings to a few short hours or to not go out at all.”
