KINVER alternative folk quartet Clutching At Straws have been nominated by South Staffordshire MP Gavin Williamson for the prestigious Parliamentary competition Rock the House.

The event provides British musicians with the opportunity to gain priceless exposure as every record is listened to by an all-star panel of judges.

All nominees will have their work judged by leading lights in the music industry and have the chance to win prizes ranging from festival slots, studio time and musical equipment.

Five finalists will be announced on June 15 who will then go forward to compete in a live 'Battle-of-the-Bands' contest at the Bedford in Balham on July 1.

Clutching at Straw released their debut mini album Come What May in December 2013 and the recording received critical acclaim from a host of specialist magazines and music commentators.

The band comprises Jake Mahal on percussion, and multi-instrumentalists/singers James Wheeler, James Baskett and Tom Simm.
