CLIMBING Britain’s highest peak would be tricky enough for the fittest charity challengers - but for a selfless Stourbridge foster carer it will be a mountainous task.

Cherie Didlick, of Amblecote, will be attempting to climb Ben Nevis on Saturday May 17 as part of a charity fundraising event co-ordinated by Love 2 Give fundraising trust which helps needy children and young adults.

It will be the third time the charity has organised the gruelling challenge but it’s a first for 38-year-old Cherie who was paralysed from the age of two until she was ten following an accident.

She says doctors told her she would never walk again - but after intensive physiotherapy she defied the odds and proved them wrong.

Her condition, however, left her with arthritis and she has to wear a steel brace on her left leg and wrist – so scaling 4,409-foot Ben Nevis in the Scottish Highlands will be the most enduring challenge she has ever faced.

Brave Cherie, a mum-of-two and a foster carer for the last four years, said: “For anyone who knows me this will not be an easy task but this is probably the only opportunity I will get to do such a great challenge.

“It will mean some discomfort and pain for a short while, but for children and young adults needing help and support it can mean life changing things.

"I really want to raise awareness for the charity as the work they do is invaluable."

Cherie, who works at Sainsbury's Amblecote, has already raised around £400 for the Love 2 Give charity, which was set up in 2013 by Black Country boxing promoter Pete Jackson and businessman Steve Grove.

Determined Cherie will be among a 30-strong team of people taking part in the trek - the proceeds of which will go towards Love 2 Give's project to create a sensory garden at Acorn Lodge day centre, Oldbury, which helps children with severe physical disabilities.
