STOURBRIDGE rugby players will be rising to the occasion this Friday night (May 16) when amateur sides the Greyhounds do battle with the Grasshoppers at Stourton Park.

Apart from the obvious bragging rights, both sides will be bidding to raise funds for the Headstart 4 Babies charity - which is close to the heart of Lions player Scott Langdon.

Headstart raises awareness of plagiocephaly and brachycephaly - medical terms for skull deformities in new born babies.

Scott's son Douglas was diagnosed with plagiocephaly shortly after his birth and the family had to raise £2,000 for a special helmet that helps to correct the deformities.

Douglas is now approaching his first birthday and the helmet is due to be removed - so it seemed appropriate to raise money for Headstart from this year's game when both teams will be looking to lift the 'Clash of the Titans' trophy.

Last year's game raised well over £1,500 for Mary Stevens Hospice and both sides will be looking to beat that target.

Both sides will be sporting new sponsored kits with all proceeds from shirt sales, gate receipts and raffle being split between the Headstart charity and the club development fund.

The action begins at 6.30pm with a contest between Stourbridge under 7s and 8s while the main game kicks off at 7pm.

Admission is £5 and the game will be followed by post match entertainment from local band the Starving Rascals.
