COUNCILLORS have approved a revised plan to create a new recreational route for pedestrians between two Dudley tourist attractions.

Dudley’s development control committee gave the nod on Monday (May 12) to a revised application for access and landscaping between Dudley Zoo and the Black Country Living Museum to create a shared arrival point for both attractions and Dudley Canal Trust.

Plans for a new connecting route between the sites were approved as part of a wider scheme to redevelop Castle Hill with a new visitor entrance for the zoo, a new visitor hub building and new parking areas.

But the recreational route has been amended slightly to improve access and overcome a change in levels between the three-metre walkway and the Dudley Canal Trust site.

As part of the revised plan it will be extended further towards the north west to provide a more gradual sloped access to the canal trust site and to include a viewing platform providing views over and down towards Dudley Canal.

The scheme also includes creating a ‘webwall’ retaining wall to the western side, with a wild flower seeded face.

Both sides of the route will also be landscaped with trees, wild flowers, ornaments and grass.
