HUNDREDS of hungry customers patiently queued outside a Hagley chippy waiting to get a fish and chip supper at a bargain price.

Our Plaice on Worcester Road served 99p portions of Norwegian cod and chips on Saturday (May 17) to celebrate Norway Day, thanks to a campaign run in partnership with the Norwegian Seafood Council (NSC).

The NSC gifted 16 tonnes of cod to the 99 participating fryers across the UK, allowing more than 40,000 people nationwide to join in the unique celebration.

Gregg Howard, owner of Our Plaice and president of the National Federation of Fish Fryers, said: “This really was a fantastic celebration of our favourite dish.

"We had smiling customers arriving in their droves throughout the day at both shops where they were happy to be enjoying the delicious Norwegian cod and chips on offer.

Jack-Robert Møller, UK Director for the NSC, added:“We are so pleased that due to the abundance of sustainable cod in Norway, that we were able to give the gift of this fish to the people of Hagley in celebration of our historic Norway Day and see so many people enjoying fish that has been sustainably caught from Norway’s icy Barents Sea.”
