HUNDREDS of hungry customers patiently queued outside a Hagley chippy waiting to get a fish and chip supper at a bargain price.

Our Plaice on Worcester Road served 99p portions of Norwegian cod and chips on Saturday (May 17) to celebrate Norway Day, thanks to a campaign run in partnership with the Norwegian Seafood Council (NSC).

The NSC gifted 16 tonnes of cod to the 99 participating fryers across the UK, allowing more than 40,000 people nationwide to join in the unique celebration.

Gregg Howard, owner of Our Plaice and president of the National Federation of Fish Fryers, said: “This really was a fantastic celebration of our favourite dish.

"We had smiling customers arriving in their droves throughout the day at both shops where they were happy to be enjoying the delicious Norwegian cod and chips on offer.

Jack-Robert Møller, UK Director for the NSC, added:“We are so pleased that due to the abundance of sustainable cod in Norway, that we were able to give the gift of this fish to the people of Hagley in celebration of our historic Norway Day and see so many people enjoying fish that has been sustainably caught from Norway’s icy Barents Sea.”

The proprietor had so much to sell he ended up trading illegally without permission from his mobile unit on private land in Hagley on Saturday night!

Rather than lowering myself to personal comments like the above posters, I will point out a fact or two. To say that the proprietor was attempting to do some good is very arguable; the business is there to make profit and he would not do anything unless he was making a profit out of it, which is why he could sell fish and chips for 99p as the fish was supplied to the business for free. Clearly the other posters would have no objection to a trader setting up a business on their private land without their permission; the majority of businesses operate within the law, so why should some businesses think they do not have to?

To confirm my previous facts, the land is owned by Hagley Parish Council who did NOT give permission for the proprietor to trade on it. Having permission of the land owner is a legal requirement of a street trading licence which this mobile unit is required by law to have.

I'm hesitant to comment because no doubt David will respond. But this instance was a one-off, to celebrate Norway Day and sustainable fish. I'm sure, knowing how much potatoes cost that Our Plaice probably just covered their costs.

Take a chill pill Dave.

How interesting!
Yet again a successful business is being attacked by David 1875
This is a dangerous person who clearly needs to get a life and a job.
What about if the community centre was booked and paid for by a customer and the chip shop were asked to cater for them?
This shop is outstanding
Stop this personal attack and stop naming them .
or perhaps you could say who you really are. and stop hiding behind David1875

Oh and I can bet your bottom dollar that David1875's next move will be to complain to the Parish Council. It's what he does.
He should get his facts straight first !

He should try running a business or even working, very dangerous man

If we did not have this national award winning chippie In Hagley look what else might be there. They only won the best chippie in the UK a few years ago. You have to ask yourself why David 1875 targets them so unfairly.
With lies, untruths and harmful inaccuracies .think he's been outed!

Whilst other commenters are making personal remarks and false accusations, I will stick to the facts. But before the facts if LouiseSarah tells everyone who she/or he is as they clearly believe posters should reveal their true names. The facts: whether or not there was a community centre event on is irrelevant; the mobile unit was parked on land belonging to Hagley Parish Council therefore their permission must be sought. It was NOT sought because that was confirmed at a parish meeting a few days later when it was agreed by council to write to the proprietor pointing out permission should have been sought. It is also a fact that LouiseSarah ( who has never posted before I believe which begs the question what is her personal motivation for personal attacks against me ) is wrong to say I am very/dangerous, is wrong to say I do not have a job and is wrong to say I have targetted other businesses, or infact any business. It is she/or he who should get their facts correct!
