PLANS to demolish Kinver's former Royal British Legion building near Stag Meadow and replace it with five, two-bedroom town houses are set to be discussed by Kinver Parish Council tonight (Wednesday).

The proposal is expected to spark considerable interest as the current building is situated on both green belt land and a floodplain.

The existing building in Legion Drive has been derelict for eight years, falling into a considerable state of dilapidation and has become an eyesore for residents and visitors alike.

South Staffordshire District Councillor Brian Edwards admitted: "This is a difficult one, because the building is on green belt land. Once you've agreed to one, there's no reason to stop another one. But certainly something needs to happen with the building.

"At the moment it has security fencing around it as a considerable amount of damage has been done inside.

"In the past, there was a proposal to turn it into a children's nursery, but I don't know what happened to that.

"Ideally it would be good if it was turned into a community-type building."

New parish council leader Rachel Davis added: "There have been several proposals put forward in the past - but there are a number of issues involved with this building."

Kinver Parish Council's planning and development committee meets tonight at 7pm at the parish council's offices at 95 High Street, Kinver.
