Search is on for young actor to star in Lenny's new BBC drama

A YOUNG Dudley actor could be in for a shot at stardom with help from one of the town’s favourite sons.
The search is on to find the star of a new TV drama called Danny and The Human Zoo written by Dudley-born actor and comedian Lenny Henry.
The 90-minute drama is being made for the BBC by Red Productions and will be semi-autobiographical; scenes for the show will be filmed in Dudley in Spring 2015.
Programme makers are looking for a talented young person to play the lead character Danny Fearon and say the star of the show could hail from Lenny’s home patch.
The show’s creative producer, Lisa Makin, told the News programme makers are looking for a black male teenager of Jamaican parentage, in his late teens with an authentic West Midlands accent.
The actor playing Danny will have to also be able to impersonate 70s celebrities and cultural icons like Tommy Cooper, Mohammed Ali, Elvis Presley, Harold Wilson, John Lennon, and Dave Allen.
Lisa Makin added the successful candidate would be “A comedian, who is constantly entertaining his school mates, with a boyish charm and an innocence to the ways of the world.”
