GREEN-fingered Stourbridge gardeners are hosting an allotment open day to raise funds for Diabetes UK.

Plot holders at Charles Road Allotments will be on hand to discuss their growing methods, promote the production of local food and raise money for a good cause on July 19.

Organiser, Adam Greathead, chose to support the charity as he was diagnosed with diabetes aged seven.

The 24-year-old, who is the vice chairman and vegetable judge for Wollaston Gardeners Guild, said: "I decided to do an open day so people can come and have a look at the allotments, meet the plot holders and ask any questions they may have.

"It will raise awareness about the production of local food and it's a great way to get the community involved."

Stourbridge MP Margot James will open the free event, which will run from 11am to 3pm.

There will also be a tombola and raffle, with prizes donated by local businesses.
