A VERDICT of accidental death was recorded at the inquest of a Quarry Bank van driver who died after colliding with a lorry on the A449.

Robert Coulson, of Coppice Lane, died of multiple serious injuries following the smash on Worcester Road, Summerfield, at around 11.40am on February 25.

The 71-year-old part time delivery driver, who worked at J S Optical Ltd on the Hoo Farm industrial estate, had been driving towards Kidderminster in his Citroen Nemo van when it hit the lorry travelling the other way.

Mr Coulson's van became wedged under the front section of the lorry and he had to be freed by the fire service before being flown to Birmingham’s Queen Elizabeth Hospital where he died later that day.

A verdict of accidental death was recorded at an inquest at Stourport Coroners Office on Wednesday June 25.
