THOUSANDS of visitors flocked to Himley Hall to celebrate the work of British heroes on Armed Forces Day.

Around 8,000 visited the borough’s biggest event to mark the day dedicated to the nation’s soldiers, sailors and air force personnel on June 29.

The event featured a variety of military displays including an HM Armed Forces Veterans Badge presentation to Dudley veterans and a World War One re-enactment by members of Dudley Army Cadet Force. The highlight of the day was an RAF Battle of Britain Memorial Flight Spitfire flypast.

Councillor Margaret Aston, Mayor of Dudley, said: “Armed Forces Day at Himley Hall and Park is always a fantastic event but this year’s was even bigger and better than ever. I would like to thank everyone involved for making the day such a huge success.

“We have a long and happy tradition of working closely with the armed forces and these celebrations are very important to remind everyone of the vitally important work they do.”
