Stourbridge News: Stourbridge in Bloom organisers set to welcome judges Stourbridge in Bloom organisers set to welcome judges

STOURBRIDGE in Bloom organisers were this week hoping they’d done enough to scoop another gold gong.

The judges from the Heart of England in Bloom initiative are set to sweep into town tomorrow (Thursday July 17) to see how the town has blossomed since the Crown Centre redevelopment project was completed last October.

Stourbridge in Bloom co-ordinator David Harcourt said: “We’re making progress as always.

“There’s also regeneration at King Edward VI College, down in Birmingham Street where they’re building a Premier Inn and on the old Hayes site where there’ll be new KFC and McDonalds restaurants – and the judges like to see continual movement and development.

“I would have thought we’ve got a good chance if everything drops into place on the day; we always keep our fingers crossed that everything goes as well as it should but we never count our chickens.”

The judges will be given a whistle-stop tour of Stourbridge’s highlights on judging day which will include visits to the town’s two main parks Mary Stevens in Norton and Stevens Park in Wollescote, the town centre and St John’s Church where students from Stourbridge College have been busy helping to spruce up the grounds.

Stourbridge has won six consecutive gold awards since the town started taking part in the campaign around a decade ago – and it will find out if enough work has been done to merit a seventh at the Heart of England in Bloom awards on Thursday September 11 in Shrewsbury.
