AMBLECOTE film buff Paul Slim will take to the screen in his own right after converting his garden shed into a stunning home cinema five years ago.

His shed will now take centre stage when it features on Channel 4's popular television series Amazing Spaces, presented by George Clarke.

Paul's impressive cinema has become a major contender for the annual 'Shed of the Year' competition which offers a £1,000 first prize.

Channel 4 film-makers have already been to film the shed which comes complete with all mod cons.

Paul has installed a 219-inch screen complete with sound system. He's since added more loudspeakers, reclining seats and a raft of cinematic memorabilia.

The 37-year-old technician also has a 3,000 strong film collection to choose from.

He said: "The shed took three months to convert and can accommodate 20 people quite comfortably, that's the most we've had in so far, but we could include more.

"I've spent around £15,000 on the shed so far, but I'm constantly looking to improve it.

"I'm thinking of adding moving seats which are called D-boxes, but they're a bit expensive at the moment. I'm just waiting for the price to come down."

Popular Paul invites his friends round once a week to watch the films but insists he still doesn't spend as much time as he would like in the shed.

Paul's shed was selected from more than 2,000 entries to make the final four in the unique category of the 2014 competition, sponsored by Cuprinol.

The finalists will be featured in a three-part series, which will be screened at 8pm on Channel 4 on Thursday July 24, Thursday July 31 and Thursday August 7.
