WORDSLEY schoolchildren have been doing their bit for the environment by travelling to school on two wheels.

Ashwood Park Primary School has been working with Amey Construction on a community project to install bike racks, which has enabled around 50 pupils to arrive on their bikes and scooters each day.

Headteacher Steve Hudson, who is leaving the school for pastures new today (Friday), said: “This means the children are arriving school in a way which benefits their health as well as allowing them to break free of the cars being used for the school run.

“This also means fewer cars clogging up the roads around school at the beginning and end of the school day.

“We are extremely grateful to Amey and especially Mark Hale, a parent at the school, for organising this project which will benefit the children of Ashwood Park for many years to come.”
