DEDICATED volunteers from the NCT Stourbridge and Halesowen Branch have been recognised in the West Midlands NCT Stars Awards.

The annual awards are presented by the UK’s largest charity for parents to honour volunteers who give their time and skills to support mums and dads in their communities.

Lorraine Dyer, first aid co-ordinator, was named regional winner in the fundraising success of the year category for her efforts in selling out and attending first aid courses which have generated significant sums of cash for the branch; she has also increased profits at the branch's popular nearly new sales by taking on the role of cafe co-ordinator.

Rebecca Crichton, out and about group leader, was awarded a regional commendation for her commitment to the branch which last year she was co-chairman of, as well as baby fair co-ordinator, advertising co-ordinator and out and about group co-leader.

While Steph Thompson, newsletter co-editor and Stourbridge coffee morning co-ordinator, was highly commended in the most supportive volunteer of the year category for her efforts in assisting other branch members and helping to run events.

Philip Rosser, head of volunteering at NCT, said: “The support and enthusiasm that NCT’s volunteers give to the charity is invaluable and makes a huge difference. The awards are a wonderful opportunity for us to say thank you and well done to these often unsung heroes, supporting parents in so many ways through their first 1,000 days. Volunteering for NCT is a fantastic way to give something back and meet new people whilst having fun along the way.”

The charity provides information and support to new parents and mums and dads-to-be by hosting an array of activities and events.

Lorraine Dyer will now other regional winners at the national NCT Stars Awards being held at the House of Commons on Tuesday September 9.
