A PENSNETT teenager has been given the unenviable honour of becoming the first person to be banned from pubs in Kingswinford and Wordsley.

The 18-year-old, of Bryce Road, has been given a lifetime ban from eight local pubs after he drunkenly assaulted a member of staff at The Swan Hotel in May.

Customers at the pub on Stream Road, Kingswinford, had complained about the teen's raucous behaviour and foul language and when he was asked to leave, he threw a punch, at the worker.

He was arrested a short time later and after sobering up in the cells admitted to officers that he had "taken a cheap shot" before running off.

With no previous convictions, he was handed a police caution, however his punishment didn’t end there as members of the local pub watch scheme agreed his behaviour warranted a permanent ban from their bars.

Licensing officer for Dudley police, Katie Turley, said: "Kingswinford and Wordsley do not suffer from excessive numbers of alcohol related incidents and we are determined to ensure that this remains the case, so officers are working closely with local licensees to robustly target any individuals causing trouble.

"This summer has been really busy for pubs thanks to the World Cup and sustained sun. By no means are we killjoys, we just want to make sure that customers and staff members in our pubs aren’t affected by criminal or anti-social behaviour."

She added: "The scheme is uniting bars and pubs across Kingswinford and Wordsley to tackle a wide range of problems, from disorder to licensing issues.

"They are sharing information on those engaging in suspicious or criminal behaviour and working with officers to ensure everyone can have a safe and an enjoyable social life."
