STOURBRIDGE parents are being encouraged to find out if they are eligible for free childcare.

The government is currently funding childcare for two-year-olds who meet certain criteria and Dudley Council’s Time for Twos team is assessing applicants across the borough.

Parents in receipt of certain benefits, have an income less than £16,190 per year, or have a child with a disability or special educational needs may be eligible.

The offer of up to 15 hours of free childcare each week could be used at a local private nursery, pre-school or with a childminder.

Councillor Tim Crumpton, cabinet member for children’s services, said: “If people think that they may be eligible then I would encourage them to get in touch with the Time for Twos team and take advantage of the free childcare offer.

“Early learning can help children with their development and communication skills helping them to get ready for when they start school.”
