THERE were plenty of celebrations this morning (Thursday  August 14) at Old Swinford Hospital where students achieved a "splendid collection of A level results".

The pass rate at the Heath Lane school was 99 per cent - with just over 60 per cent of passes at the top A*, A or B grades.

Nine per cent of all grades were A*s, 34 per cent were As or A*s and 24 students gained three or more A or A* grades.

Dr Richard Heaton, director of the sixth form, was delighted with the results - adding: "I am extremely proud of this year’s splendid collection of A Level results, which are a tribute to the hard work of pupils and staff alike.

“Our high pass rate and the proportion of top grades are a measure of the high levels of motivation of our students and the strong guidance they receive in their academic studies.

"These results will see almost all of our students straight off to university."

Among the star performers were: Simon Bill from Cleobury Mortimer who scored four A* grades and will be heading off to study medicine at Cambridge; Natasha Rushton from Rowley Regis whose A*AAB grades will enable her to study law at the University of Bristol; Alastair Smith from Rowley Regis who achieved an A* and three AAA grades and who plans to study physics at St Andrew’s; David Kent from Stourbridge who bagged three A*s and who is now set to study medicine at Hull York Medical School; and Justin Yeung from Solihull who gained two A*s and an A and who plans to study chemical engineering at Imperial College, London.
