FOLLOWING a successful youth festival at a Wordsley park, plans are now in place to hold a bigger and better event next year.

Throughout Friday afternoon around 50 youngsters visited King George V Park to enjoy live music and take part in arts and crafts activities.

Youths also got got creative at the event - organised by Dudley Youth Services and Friends of Wordsley Park - and used spray paint to transform an old shelter in the park, which had become an eyesore.

Catherine Lewis, from Dudley Youth Services, said: "The aim was to provide them with something to do in the summer holidays that would cost very little, not everyone can afford to go on holiday or go on day trips."

Councillor Derrick Hemingsley, who represents Wordsley, added: "This event was a success and a testing ground for a bigger youth day next year. My appeal is for local businesses to come forward to sponsor the event.

"I believe this is a positive message to the youth of Dudley and would be a great opportunity for local bands to perform. "

Any local businesses interested in supporting the event should email cllr.derrick.hemingsley@dudley.gov.uk or call 07771977746.
