A BRIERLEY Hill school has marked its 40th anniversary by unveiling a new £50,000 playground.
Former Commonwealth champion Daniel Caines visited Peters Hill Primary School on Monday (September 8) to officially open the facility.
The sprinter spent the day showing youngsters how to use the equipment, which includes a climbing wall, timber trail, slides, ropes and swings.
A reading and performance area has also been created for children who would prefer to enjoy a quieter break time.
Headteacher Neil Hopkin, said: "We are so proud of our new exciting playground. It will play an important role in encouraging us all to be more physically active and will provide a wonderful space for outdoor learning too.
"Daniel spoke to the children in assembly and shared his story, which focused on overcoming adversity. It was very inspirational.
"He then stayed all day and worked with the children showing them how to use the equipment, the children really enjoyed meeting Daniel and found his sessions very motivating.”
