A GROUP of Black Country friends raised an impressive £14,000 to help people with cancer by hosting a charity ball.

The pals came together to fundraise as they have all been affected by the disease and wanted to thank charities that have helped them and their families along the way.

This is not the first time Amy and Rob Bates, Louis Harris, Vicky Portman, Verity Hall, Hayley Collingridge, Jane Lockem, Mandy Hill, Sarah Hollis and Carole Beardsmore have raised a considerable amount.

Last year, the group raised £11,500 by hosting a similar event, so wanted to build on the success with the ball at The Copthorne Hotel, Merry Hill, on September 20.

Guests were treated to a two-course meal, entertainment and a raffle and auction with prizes donated from generous local businesses.

Funds were split between St Agatha's Trust - based at Russells Hall Hospital, Compton Hospice and Lingen Davies Cancer Fund in Shrewsbury and will be used to purchase equipment and ensure support can continue.
