BIG-HEARTED Black Country folk have been forking out to raise funds for Macmillan Cancer Support.

Walking groups from across the borough who take part in the Dudley Walkfit programme gave their backing to the charity's coffee morning by setting up mobile drinks stops.

Members from Huntingtree, Leasowes, Himley, Saltwells and Leasowes Nordic walking groups all got in on the act by setting up coffee stations for fellow walkers.

Apart from selling drinks, the groups also supplied chocolate, cake and an abundance of homemade Black Country bread pudding to help swell the coffers.

Their efforts raised a total of £479.19.

Wollaston friends Sue McDowall and Sheila Wrigley held a coffee morning at the Methodist Church in Cobden Street.

They had the backing of Wollaston shopkeepers who helped promote the event by putting up posters in their windows.

The pair sold tea, coffee, cakes and biscuits and raised £502.58 as a result of their efforts.

Kind Sainsbury customers contributed £240 to the cause after the Amblecote store provided in-store drinks.

Cafe colleagues Colleen Shakespeare, Maz Davison and Dawn Wellings gave up their own time to stage the event.

Colleen said: "The Macmillan charity touches the lives of so many local customers and colleagues."
