A STOURBRIDGE widow is continuing to try and raise awareness and funds for a pancreatic cancer charity in memory of her late husband who died of the disease aged just 35.

Judith Roden's husband Paul lost his battle for life in 2011 just eight months after they married.

Since his untimely death - heartbroken Judith, aged 52, has been trying to raise awareness of the killer disease which also claimed the lives of stars including Patrick Swayze (Dirty Dancing) and Roger Lloyd-Pack (Only Fools and Horses).

She raised £700 for the charity Pancreatic Cancer UK by staging a barn dance at Stourbridge Rugby Club in July.

And now she and other members of the West Midlands supporters group hope to light up Worcester's Guildhall on Saturday November 1 as part of Pancreatic Awareness Month and the charity's Purple Lights campaign which aims to illuminate key buildings across the country to bring attention to the cause.

Judith, from Dennis Hall Road in Amblecote, said: "We will be there in the afternoon raising awareness and talking to people about the charity and as it goes dark we will be holding a vigil to remember all those suffering from pancreatic cancer and those lost to the disease.

"We want to encourage anyone affected by pancreatic cancer in any way to come to the group for support and support the charity.

"Sadly this cancer is the fifth most common cause of cancer death in the UK but it barely receives any central funding.

"Even more worrying is that pancreatic cancer survival rates have not improved in 40 years."

Judith, who is currently studying childcare at Stourbridge College, has also raised £2,550 for Mary Stevens Hospice since Paul's death.
