ORGANISERS of a Stourbridge community fund were left dumbfounded when no groups came forward to apply for cash.

The John Porter Community Fund was set up earlier this year to help local good causes - with awards being made every three months.

Kingswinford's rising cyclo-cross star Hannah Payton, who won the National Trophy Series, was the first recipient and has used the proceeds to help set up base in Belgium this winter where she will take on some of the world's best riders.

Lucy Porter set up the fund in memory of her late father John, proprietor of Stourbridge funeral directors H Porter and Sons.

She said: "After the first award to Hannah, I sat back waiting for the deluge of nominations to come in - but nothing happened.

"It's a substantial award and I was expecting lots of applicants.

"The award could go to individuals, clubs, charities, organisations or even schools, as long as it's a good cause and local.

"The only stipulation is that each cause must be within a four mile radius of H Porter and Sons' premises in South Road, Stourbridge.
