DUDLEY Deaf Children's Society couldn't hide their delight after being awarded a £2,000 cash boost through the Lloyd's Bank Community Fund.

The society, which supports children with hearing loss and their families, has already put some of the money to good use by setting up a homework club and a newspaper for deaf teenagers.

However the majority of the money will go towards organising family events, including a Christmas party, summer trips and visits to see a pantomime.

Membership secretary Shelagh James said: "We're absolutely over the moon with this award and we want to thank everyone who voted for us.

"These social events really benefit all deaf children throughout Dudley. They provide opportunities for the children to meet each other and help to develop their confidence and communication skills."

The society has Listen and Learn centres at Crestwood School, in Bromley, with another at Ashwood Park Primary School in Bells Lane, Wordsley for younger children.
