A STOURBRIDGE film fan's feet have only just touched the ground after a whirlwind few weeks living his own Hobbit related fantasy.

Stourbridge News film and theatre reviewer Kyle Pedley, a film-maker and super fan of The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit movies, won a dream trip to New Zealand to watch the final Hobbit movie, visit the set of Middle earth and meet his all-time favourite director Peter Jackson.

And on his return to the UK - he was also invited by Warner Bros to attend the world premier of The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies at London's Leicester Square.

A fan of Jackson's epic films since he was a schoolboy, Kyle admitted he's "still in disbelief" about the whole experience.

The 27-year-old, from Amblecote, was one of just six UK and Ireland based winners of the global Hobbit Fan Fellowship Contest offered up by New Line Cinema, MGM Pictures, Warner Bros. Pictures, Air New Zealand and Tourism New Zealand.

The prize was a five-day adventure taking in locations New Zealand's north and south islands featured in The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit trilogies; and a private tour of the set of The Shire - home of Bilbo Baggins.

Fans were also treated to a Maori cultural performance and a traditional hangi banquet and a feast fit for a dwarf.

But the highlight was meeting legendary director Peter Jackson and being treated to a preview screening of the third and final Hobbit film at the movie-maker's private studios in Wellington ahead of its December 12 UK release date.

Kyle said: "It was absolutely incredible. When I found out I'd won it was one of those surreal once-in-a-lifetime type moments but it didn't really sink in until I got there."

He said meeting his hero Peter Jackson "was indescribable" and he added: "Warner Bros. picked me to do a speech and presentation to him on behalf of all the fans.

"So I got to say thank you to Peter Jackson for everything over the past 13 years and have a chat to him. It was an absolutely incredible experience to have that opportunity on behalf of all the fans."

To win the trip of a lifetime - Kyle, who runs (A)musings Media and is about the launch his own photography business, had to complete Hobbit film-related challenges including sending a postcard to Peter Jackson explaining why he belonged in the Fan Fellowship, answering a Hobbit quiz and supplying a video message sharing his passion for all things Hobbit.

The former King Edward VI College and Ridgewood High School student, who beat hundreds of thousands of fans across the world to snap up the prize, filmed his offering at Dudley's Black Country Living Museum, Moseley Bog and Birmingham's Sarehole Mill where Hobbit and Lord of the Rings author JRR Tolkien played as a child.

Kyle also got to meet Hobbit actor Ken Stott, who plays his favourite character in the trilogy, when he attended the world premiere on December 1.

He said: "That was a bit of a dream come true moment as well. I had a good chat to him and also spoke to Lee Pace who plays Thranduil - and stood next to Benedict Cumberbatch on the red carpet.

"I also also got to see the film again which was a strange, humbling experience as it was the world premiere but we'd already seen it!"

Mega movie enthusiast Kyle, who shot his own feature-length parodies the Lord of the Rings movies while at school, attended the Royal premiere of the first Hobbit film, An Unexpected Journey, in December 2012 and the London premiere of Return of the King in 2003.
