ALTHOUGH she's famous for being a lazy cow, Black Country comedy character Doreen has been busy publishing her autobiography.

Entitled From Rug-Rats to Riches - the book offers up the spoof figure's views on everything from Benefits Street to the Queen.

Quarry Bank-born playwright and film-maker David Tristram, creator of Doreen, decided it was time for the cult character to tell her story in print as there has been an ever-increasing appetite for all things Doreen since she was first seen bemoaning her life on benefits in a YouTube mockumentary which went viral back in January 2012.

David said: "Now she's a celebrity she needs a book but she was too lazy to write it herself - we had to have a ghost writer.

"It tells her astonishing life story - from her early days to up until now - straight from the cow's mouth; it's the perfect Christmas stocking filler."

Meanwhile David is also busy working on a new satirical stage show starring the comic figure following the success of An Audience With Doreen which proved a sell-out hit with theatregoers across the Midlands in autumn 2013.

Women On Top is a one-woman show starring Doreen actress Gill Jordan from Walsall which is set to tour theatres across the region from February 2015.

David said: "It mixes video projection and live theatre - and it's a satire of British institutions so it has a go at just about everything from the BBC to the monarchy to the Government. It includes Doreen but Gill also plays a whole host of other characters too."

Not one to rest on his laurels - David, creator of the Inspector Drake plays and films, is also busy filming the first-ever Doreen movie which will be finished in 2015.

The 180-page Rug-Rats to Riches book is available as a hard copy, priced £7.95 (plus P&P), from website doreen.tv or as a Kindle edition from amazon.co.uk, priced £3.71.
