A TALENTED Stourbridge teacher has gone to the top of the class after she won the Mayor of Dudley’s Christmas card competition.

Hundreds of entries were received but it was Jane Salmons' snap of a squirrel in the snow that impressed Councillor Margaret Aston the most.

The King Edward VI College teacher, who took the picture in Mary Stevens Park, had a finished card presented to her by the borough’s first citizen.

She said: “I live in Stourbridge with my partner and son and photography is a bit of a hobby for me when we’re out and about.

"I’m delighted and surprised to win the competition as I really consider myself as a beginner, though this has encouraged me to continue to take my camera out and about with me around the local area.”

Cllr Aston said she was "overwhelmed" by the response to the competition and added: "We have some very talented photographers in the borough and I am delighted we have been able to celebrate their work as part of this competition.”
