ENVIRONMENTAL group Transition Stourbridge will be having another crack at cleaning up the River Stour on Sunday February 1.

Work will be taking place on a stretch between Bradley Road and The Bonded Warehouse from 10.30am.

Transition Stourbridge member Margy Henderson confirmed: "Conditions usually range from bad to terrible.

"In one session alone we pulled out no less than 16 shopping trollies.

"On another occasion further upstream near Lye we removed over 100 worn tyres and there's still some more left there.

"Although some of the rubbish we remove is really dirty and slimy, people seem to love it.

"We always seem to get between 20 to 30 volunteers and we leave most of the rubbish collected in a pile for the council to come and claim.

"Other items, such as bottles and tin cans, we try to recycle.

"Although there is always plenty of litter, we seem to be making an impact and making people more aware along the river from Stourbridge to Lye, Cradley and Halesowen."

Transition Stourbridge members have a display of their work on the River Stour in a shop window next door to Peplows in High Street.

There's also pictures on display from the group's recent calendar competition which proved popular.

A few calendars are still available and can be obtained from the Health Food Shop in Victoria Passage or Fair and Square, Market Street.
