LUNCHTIME shoppers were left stunned when a car parked on Stourbridge Institute car park was rammed from behind through a wall and into the town's Tesco entrance.

This was the scene of the smash which happened just before 1pm on the car park, off Bell Street, opposite The Crystal Leisure Centre.

Onlookers say a silver Jaguar veered into the carpark, smashed through the barrier and careered into a burgundy Renault car - shunting it through the wall into the motorists' entrance to the Tesco Extra store.

Ron Peplow, chairman of Stourbridge institute, said: "It's very fortunate no-one was going down the ramp at the time."

An elderly couple in the Jaguar, believed to long-standing members of the club, were being treated at the scene by paramedics.

The owner of the mangled burgundy car was thought to be shopping in the town at the time of the incident and unaware of the drama.

Mr Peplow said the fire service had been alerted as fuel was believed to be leaking from the vehicle.
