MEMBERS of Black Country band WEAK13 have written and recorded a song that pays homage to the late Midlands musician Rob Geraghty.

Bandmates from the three-piece metal act, fronted by Nick J Townsend, recorded the track Listen To MEG in memory of the tragic singer and guitarist who died of a heart attack while on holiday in the Canary Islands in 2009, aged just 33.

Recorded at Stourbridge's Base Studios, the song salutes some of the song titles and themes from Kidderminster electro indie outfit MEG’s back catalogue.

WEAK13 singer and guitarist Nick said he wanted to create a song that would be fun, appropriate and inspiring.

He said: "The music of MEG meant a lot to me personally; that band played a lot of the same venues I did when WEAK13 first hit the music scene; their music was just darn brilliant; "MEG's forced absence is a real shame as they were one of the best bands to come out of the Midlands and Rob was a great musician."

“We asked Thomas Games, one of the remaining band members of MEG, if it was okay for us to include one of the riffs from the MEG song Greasy Sausages at the end of the track that we wrote; we felt it would be a nice touch for the fans of MEG and an extra tribute to Rob Geraghty."

Nick, who recorded the track with bassist Wesley Smith and guest drummer Simon Henley as WEAK13 drummer Neel Parmar was out of the country, said he'd spent the past few years developing ideas for the song.

He added: "I really couldn’t rush this. MEG were just so inspiring as a band.Tunes like Kelly, You're the Teacher I just loved for its sheer originality and epic sound. Another favourite is StarFleet which is an emotional, tender heart-warming cover version of the theme tune to the 80s kids TV show of the same name."
