A BLACK Country service organisation will be supporting our Well of Life Appeal at its annual plant sale.

Kingswinford and Stourbridge Lions Club, which is this year celebrating its 40th anniversary, will donate a proportion of the profits to help save lives in Africa.

Mary Thompson, club president, said: “The club is happy to donate some of our plant sale proceeds to help with such a worthwhile and life-changing project.

“Our plant sale strap line is ‘this year, make the money you spend on plants make a difference’.”

This will be the 5th time the club has fundraised by selling bedding and hanging basket plants with money distributed to good causes through the year.

Members of the organisation will be taking orders from customers in the postcodes DY5, DY6, DY7, DY8, DY9, B62 and B63 up until midnight on May 2.

All the processing of orders, picking, packing and delivery, is done by Lions club volunteers and supporters from Friends of Lions with delivery being carried out during the day of May 16.

Karen Rice, membership chairman, said: “Previous plant sales have been a fantastic success, with good quality plants from Walkers Nursery and Plant Centre in Chester at good prices.”

However, the group are putting out an appeal of their own as they are currently looking for an industrial unit which they could use on Friday May 15 and Saturday May 16.

A unit of about 400 sq metres is vital to the organisation of the plant sale as it may not be able to go ahead without the space.

Mrs Rice added: “We need to find a unit quickly as without somewhere to pick and pack we will really be in trouble.”

Plant sale brochures can be found online at www.lions-plant-sales.info or www.kandslions.org.uk. A hard copy can be requested by emailing plants@kandslions.org.uk.

Kingswinford and Stourbridge Lions, which is welcoming new members, meet at Stourbridge Institute, in Market Street, every 2nd and 4th Monday of the month.
