A STOURBRIDGE ex-serviceman's club was targeted by raiders in a burglary spree in which three businesses were also attacked.

But the thieves netted a total of under £100, despite wreaking havoc as they broke into the four buildings.

The break-ins happened over the weekend and police later arrested two men, aged 19 and 21.

The Royal British Legion in Enville Street and Blunts shoe shop in Market Street were broken into in the early hours of Monday morning.

Butterfingers sandwich shop, caterers and café in Hagley Road was targeted some time between 2pm on Saturday and 6am on Monday.

And DY8 Desinz hair dressing salon in Market Street was broken into between 5pm on Saturday and 6am on Monday.

The Stourbridge ex servicemen's club was hit just a few weeks after a break-in at the British Legion in Kingswinford, where raiders stole cash and stock worth £2,500 and caused £5,000 damage.

Dora Stevens, vice chairman of Stourbridge British Legion, said: "They broke our door and we've had to get a new one - but fortunately they didn't get in.

"If they had got in they wouldn't have found any money because we don't keep any there.

"But I think they are evil for targeting the British Legion, which raises money for soldiers, sailors and other ex servicemen.

"It's horrible - especially so soon after what happened at the Kingswinford branch."

At DY8 Desinz the burglars broke down the door and stole a tin containing around £30 in tips.

Owner Wendy Rose said: "They were after cash but luckily didn't get much - they just left me with a mess to clean up."

Jane Ferguson, owner of Butterfingers, said: "They chiselled out bricks around the back and wrenched the door off.

"They took our till but there was just a small amount of float money in there."

And Paul Fletcher, manager of Blunt's, said: "They broke a small window and made a mess of our window display - but they didn't get any cash here."

Dudley Police arrested two men on Stourbridge Ring Road at around 2.50am on Monday following the raids.

They were questioned and then released on police bail pending further enquiries.
