ORGANISERS of an impromptu blood pressure check in Kinver say they are shocked by the number of people who were at danger level.

The checks took place amongst Saturday morning shoppers in the High Street after the rotary club set up a test centre at the White Harte public house.

But of the 97 people who took the tests, 27 of them proved to have dangerously high levels and were advised to see their GP.

Rotarian Chris Elcock, who organised the project said: "We were surprised at the numbers who came in - but quite disturbed at the percentage of people that we referred to GPs.

"But that was the whole reason for the exercise. We wanted to alert unsuspecting people of the dangers of strokes from high blood pressure and encourage those who may by vulnerable to take action."

Rotary Club of Kinver spokesman, Mike Deathridge, added: "Seriously high blood pressure is something that people wouldn't realise they have. Simply by staging the tests, if we managed to help just one person alleviate a serious problem, then it was well worth the effort."

Conservative Parliamentary candidate for South Staffordshire Gavin Williamson took time off from electioneering to get tested and seems to be relaxed despite the stress of campaigning - his blood pressure was normal.
