CROWDS flocked to Kinver on Saturday for the official opening of the village's refurbished bike track.

They were treated to an exhibition from mountain bike champion Ricky Crompton, who built the track - situated next to the skate park at the back of Marsh Playing Fields.

Kinver Action Group raised £23,500 from a variety of grants to pay for the refurbishment and fundraiser Margaret Rogers said: "We had an absolutely fantastic day. There were people from Kidderminster, Brierley Hill and Wordsley who had travelled to use the track.

"We had whole families lining up throughout the day, waiting to use the track. We even had a little girl of five going around on her Princess bike, which was wonderful to see."

She also heaped praise on rider Ricky Crompton and said: "We couldn't have asked for more. He was there from early morning and was still there when we left at 3.30pm.

"Ricky made himself available to everyone. He showed the crowd some of his moves and proved a real man of the people.

"Being a mountain bike champion himself, Ricky knew what was required and wouldn't let anyone else use the track until he had tested it out thoroughly himself.

"He offered advice to people and even allowed some people to use his own bike. He did us proud and we were very lucky to get him."
