YOUNGSTERS at a Stourton pre-school made the most of the sunshine yesterday (Wednesday) which turned out to be the hottest July day on record.

Children at Peter Pan Pre School, based at Stourton Village Hall off Bridgnorth Road, took to the sandpit and their landlocked beach hut as temperatures soared to more than 80°F across the Stourbridge area, peaking at 98°F at Heathrow, London, yesterday afternoon.

Meanwhile, as the long-running pre-school prepares to say goodbye to some of its youngsters bound for primary school, leader Margaret Rogers is looking to boost numbers.

She said: "We've only got a few children to start back in September so we've got lots of places available."

The pre-school, which has been going since 1969, is open to youngsters aged two to five from 9am to midday every weekday.
