FIVE Midlands comedians are set to bring the laughs to Stourbridge as a celebration of Black Country Day.

The locally born and bred comics will perform as part of Fitz of Laughter Comedy Club’s Black Country Day special at Katie Fitzgerald’s pub on Tuesday (July 14).

The show will feature a headline set from Stourbridge’s own Johnny Sorrow, winner of the Malcolm Hardee Award for Comic Originality at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival two years ago.

He will be supported by Youtube sensation Jonny Cole, of Wednesbury, along with Wolverhampton’s Jack Kirwan and Dave Dinsdale, a comedy veteran who has been dubbed the “Godfather” of Midlands comedy.

Wayne Beese, resident compere at the rapidly-growing club, will play host for the evening while The Empty Can, the band which penned the Black Country Anthem, will perform during the intervals.

He said: “There is loads on throughout July for the Black Country Festival but not much in the evening of the day itself.

“We wanted to do something to mark the day itself and, although it’s a school night, we hope people will turn out and celebrate everything that is great about where we live.

“I’ve been doing stand-up all over the country for the past two years but there is a lot of talent right here in the Black Country, and we thought it would be great to try and showcase that.

“We are also delighted to have The Empty Can on board, a brilliant Black Country band, and we hope to welcome a few surprise guests as well on the night.”

Tickets for the show, which is due to start at 8.30pm with doors opening at 8pm, are £10 in advance or £15 on the door.
