THE name of a new Kinver retirement home will give a nod to the past as it recognises the garage which formally occupied the site.

Lowestone Court has been selected as the name for McCarthy and Stone’s development in Stone Lane following a competition run by the house building firm.

The name was proposed by local resident Wendy Cotterill and confirmed by South Staffordshire Council in recognition of Lowes Garage.

Wendy said: “I live just up the road from the development and so have seen it changing hands.

“When I heard about the competition, it seemed natural to propose Lowestone Court because I remember the site being Lowes Garage - I actually used to fill up with petrol there! Of course, the development is on Stone Lane which completed the name nicely.

“It’s lovely to have had my name chosen and I’m excited to see the development once it’s finished.”

To coincide with the naming announcement, McCarthy and Stone has also revealed an artist’s impression to show how the site will look when it is completed.

Gill Sabin, regional sales and marketing director, said: “It is important that all our developments have a name that is fitting to the local area.

“We chose Wendy’s name because of her creative melding of the former garage name and the road name to create something unique.

“We are pleased that the name of our new development reflects the history of the area.”
