A WELL-loved Stourbridge ladies choir is looking to recruit an assistant musical director.

The Greenfield Singers need an assistant to support the work carried out by musical director – and choir founder – June Hartley.

Now the hunt is on to find someone to help take some of the weight off June in leading the popular choir, which rehearses at Hanbury Hill Baptist Church.

June said: “25 years ago I started the choir, but unfortunately I need to retire soon as I am now 84 and cannot run it by myself.

“This is why I need an assistant director to help me share my duties at rehearsals and performances.

“The choir is in a very good state and they are all really good singers. Even though we are a small group, people are very impressed and do rave about us.

“In the past 25 years we have performed for many local groups, given concerts for charity – including Mary Stevens Hospice, which we raised £400 for recently – and have also been awarded a winners’ cup in the choral section at Dudley Music Festival.

“We enjoy singing a varied repertoire and although the rehearsals are hard work, they are rewarding and the group brings loads of fun and friendship with it.”

The choir, which meets each week for rehearsals, is also looking to expand its numbers, which currently stand at 15 – including June and an accompanist.

June added: “We are also looking at recruiting new singers, both sopranos and altos, as well as the assistant, who I hope will eventually take over from me completely.”
