The toilet facilities at our grandiose and expensive bus station are now closing at the end of the afternoon for “the benefit of the travelling public”.

So soon, it would seem, the management of the bus station has had to reduce a basic and essential service; the nearest alternative to which is located at Stourbridge Junction.

The early closure is not easy to see as a benefit, whatever its cause – believed to be a paucity of staff after 6pm. The inconvenience that will result is not even regretted.

I wonder how the members of the travelling public will respond to this “benefit” after, perhaps, a long bus journey, possibly with children, or others, who might find the waiting involved just a bit too much of a “benefit”. What will they do? Does anyone have any suggestions?

It might have been better to describe this innovation as something other than a “benefit”.

Just think of what could have been done had the amazing glasshouse we have, not been built. We have lost readily available toilets, and a cafe; all that was needed was a good paint job and the provision of information screens, but no.

And now we have the “benefit” of early closing toilets.
