A MAN has died after he was involved in a suspected hit-and-run in Oldbury.

Anthony Maskell was walking along the dual carriageway on Birchfield Lane just before midnight on Thursday (July 30) when he was struck – just outside the Whiteheath Tavern.

The 50-year-old was taken to hospital with a serious head injury but died the following day.

Police are now urging the driver of a light-coloured Nissan thought to be involved to come forward so they can give Mr Maskell’s family the answers they need.

PC Karl Davies from the Collision Investigation Unit said: “From debris left at the scene and CCTV footage, we believe the car involved was a light-coloured Nissan and I would urge the driver to do the right thing and contact us as soon as possible so they can explain what happened.

“I am also keen to hear from anyone who may have witnessed the collision or noticed a Nissan with fresh damage in the days following the collision.”

He continued: “Mr Maskell’s sudden death has left a hole in his family’s life and they are anxious to find out exactly what happened that evening.

“They are currently being supported by specially trained officers as we work to piece together the circumstances of their loved one’s death.”
